The 2024 UniSport Nationals Distance Running event concluded last weekend on the September 16 with a thrilling competition at the iconic TCS Sydney Marathon. Athletes from 28 universities across Australia pushed their limits to the absolute maximum, battling it out in the marathon and 10km races, showcasing their endurance, determination, and unwavering commitment to their sport.<\/p>\n
In the marathon, Justin Yu<\/strong> from The University of Sydney emerged victorious with a time of 02:35:23<\/strong>. USYD’s standout’s victory was a testament to Yu’s exceptional talent and unwavering dedication, as he outpaced a field of talented competitors. Close behind were Ben Cook<\/strong> from the University of Southern Queensland (02:39:01) and Archer Ramsay<\/strong> from The Australian National University (02:41:23), who delivered impressive performances of their own.<\/p>\n On the women’s side, Victoria Bath<\/strong> from Flinders University claimed the marathon title, crossing the finish line in 03:06:34<\/strong>. Bath’s victory was a triumph of human spirit, as she overcame challengers to secure the top spot. Nicola Pearce<\/strong> from the University of Canberra (03:15:53) and Moram Foster<\/strong> from Macquarie University (03:19:04) also put on remarkable displays of athleticism, rounding out the women\u2019s podium.<\/p>\n In the 10km races, both the men’s and women’s events saw thrilling finishes. Kieren Tall<\/strong> from the Australian College of Physical Education emerged victorious in the men’s race, clocking in at 31:09<\/strong>. Bronte Oates<\/strong> from the University of Technology Sydney took the women’s title with a time of 33:39<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In the men’s 10km, Lachlan Townsend<\/strong> from The University of Sydney finished second with a time of 31:26<\/strong>, followed by Logan Campbell<\/strong> from the University of New South Wales in third with a time of 31:34<\/strong>. In the women’s 10km, Bridget Lunn<\/strong> from The Australian National University claimed second place with a time of 37:04<\/strong>, while Ruby Madden<\/strong> from the University of Technology finished third with a time of 37:05<\/strong>. These times highlighted how both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 10km races were nail-biting affairs, with the top competitors separated by a mere blink of an eye.<\/p>\n The National Championship Lead, Gary Gin from UniSport Australia says:<\/p>\n \u201cWe would like to express our sincere gratitude to TCS Sydney Marathon for hosting the 2024 UniSport Distance running nationals. The event was incredibly exciting with close finishes from athletes in both categories.
