As the snow and ice begin to melt away on the Torino slopes, marking the beginning of the end of the European winter, we look back proudly on the athletes who represented Australia at the 32nd Winter World University Games (WWUG).<\/p>\n

Our small yet mighty squad of 20 UniRoos, led by Chef de Mission Tameka Collins, competed in six different events across 11 days, participating in no less than 13 gold medal races. Notable results include Lara Walsh (Bachelor of Psychology, Macquarie University) finishing third in the Women\u2019s Snowboard Cross Small Final and seventh overall, with Lucas Wareham (Bachelor of Science, Macquarie University) placing seventh in the 1500m short-track speed skating.<\/p>\n

On the ski fields, Adam Barnett (Bachelor of Product Design Engineering, Swinburne University of Technology), Noah Bradford (Bachelor of Commerce\/Law, Macquarie University), Fedele de Campo (Bachelor of Science\/Economics, Australian National University), and flag bearer Bentley Walker-Broose (Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science, University of Canberra) put in a solid team performance to attain an impressive 8th place in the men\u2019s cross-country ski relay.<\/p>\n

UNSW Sydney student Emma Bosco (Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering \u2013 Honours) had a memorable competition achieving a wonderful 8th place in the Dual Moguls.<\/p>\n

Other standout UniRoos\u2019 results included alpine skier Hugh McAdam (Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering\/Commerce, The University of Sydney) who finished 9th in the Slalom and 13th in the Giant Slalom in a field featuring over 100 of the world\u2019s best university athletes, a highly commendable and impressive accomplishment.<\/p>\n

Max Vardy (Bachelor of Business, Western Sydney University) placed 11th overall in the Men\u2019s Snowboard Cross, an event which also featured positive showings from Leon Davis-Cook (Bachelor of Health and Medical Science \u2013 Honours, University of Wollongong) and Oscar Sayers (Bachelor of Arts, The University of Melbourne) who finished 21st and 22nd respectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cUniSport Australia would like to recognise and acknowledge all athletes, officials and staff that wore the green and gold during the 2025 Torino Winter World University Games,\u201d Mark Sinderberry, CEO of UniSport Australia said, \u201cthe team represented our proud nation, displaying all the values that epitomise sporting success in Australia. Consistent displays of great determination, dedication, passion, sportsmanship, and humility were apparent throughout the Games.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you to the athlete\u2019s families for their unwavering support, and the incredible team working behind the scenes, in particular Chef de Mission, Tameka Collins, Team Physician Dr Kathy Yu and Cross-Country Coach Jacob Huseby. The continuing support from Snow Australia, Biathlon Australia and Australian Ice Racing has also been a tremendous contribution to the UniRoos\u2019 success\u201d Sinderberry concluded.<\/p>\n
